DIY Recipe: Cannabis-Infused Iced Tea

byMichael Warford3 minutes

From British Columbia to Newfoundland and Labrador, this summer has been a scorcher for pretty much everyone in the country. One of the best ways to cool off when the mercury starts to rise is with a refreshing glass of iced tea. And when you infuse iced tea with cannabis, you get a delicious summertime drink complete with the health benefits you need.

Infusing iced tea with marijuana is easy. You have two basic methods to choose from: using cannabis oil or dried cannabis flower. We’ll give you the basic recipe for each technique and show you how to add your own twist to these drinks to elevate the final results.

Cannabis-Infused Iced Tea With Cannabis Oil

For this recipe, you simply have to make your favourite iced tea and then add cannabis oil at the end. You can also try out different flavours of tea bags and even mix and match various kinds to create some really interesting and delicious results.

The amount of cannabis oil you add is completely up to you and will depend on how strong of a dosage you’re looking for. We’ve included a guideline dose below, but feel free to adjust according to your preference. Sublingual cannabis oil can have a fast onset though, so if you haven’t used it before or you’re an infrequent consumer, start off with a conservative amount and wait at least an hour before adding more.

Ingredients for Cannabis-Infused Iced Tea With Cannabis Oil

  • 2–4 teabags of whichever flavour you want (the more teabags you use, the stronger your drink will be)
  • 8 cups of water, divided
  • Ice cubes
  • 20 mL cannabis oil
  • Honey or sugar
  • Lemon wedges (optional)
  • Mint leaves or other garnish (optional)

How to Make Cannabis-Infused Iced Tea With Cannabis Oil

  1. Steep your tea bags in 4 cups of boiling water in a heat-proof pitcher.
  2. Allow the tea to steep for approximately 5 minutes and then carefully remove and discard the tea bags.
  3. Add 4 cups of cold water and the ice cubes until the pitcher is full.
  4. Stir in the cannabis oil.
  5. Sweeten the iced tea with either honey, agave or sugar. Add as much as you like, constantly stirring and tasting as you go along until you reach the desired amount.
  6. You can take your iced tea to the next level by adding lemon wedges, mint leaves or other garnishes.

Cannabis-Infused Iced Tea With Dried Marijuana Flower

An alternative way to make cannabis-infused iced tea is by using dried marijuana flower rather than an oil.

The main difference with this method is that instead of adding the cannabis in at the end, you steep it with the tea itself. To do this, you have two options: One way is to take your teabags, open them up and mix in the dried cannabis, then reseal the teabags. This method allows the cannabis and herbs to better blend together.

The other option is to use a tea ball. Simply add your desired amount of cannabis and loose tea together into the tea ball. An advantage of the tea ball is that it tends to be less messy than trying to open and reseal tea bags, and it gives you the opportunity to use fresher and higher-end teas and herbs.

Ingredients for Cannabis-Infused Iced Tea With Dried Marijuana Flower

  • 4 g of dried cannabis (less or more depending on desired strength)
  • 2–4 teabags (again, the flavour is up to you) or loose tea
  • 8 cups of water, divided
  • Ice cubes
  • Honey (or another sweetener)
  • Lemon wedges (optional)
  • Mint leaves or other garnish (optional)

How to Make Cannabis-Infused Iced Tea With Dried Marijuana Flower

  1. Steep teabags or tea ball in 4 cups of boiling water in a heat-proof pitcher for about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the ice and 4 cups of cold water.
  3. Add honey or sugar to taste and, if you like, the lemon wedges.
  4. Add a garnish, such as mint leaves.

These are just two ways of making a delicious and refreshing cannabis-infused iced tea—but they’re far from the only ones. Other options include infusing honey or ice cubes with cannabis and then adding them to an iced tea you’ve already prepared. Whichever method you choose, you’re sure to love having a medicated summertime drink to help you cool off during those blisteringly hot days.
