Why Cannabis Makes You Laugh
Though no one knows the exact reason why cannabis makes you laugh, there are some studies that might shed some light on the possibilities. Certain compounds in cannabis stimulate areas in your brain that are associated with laughter. When you consume cannabis, blood flow to the right frontal and left temporal lobes increases—this may be the reason why things seem a little bit funnier than usual. Plus, cannabis is a natural mood booster, which always makes it easier to see the lighter side of things.
Laughing Is Good for You
When you laugh, you release a series of endorphins—neurotransmitters that boost your mood. These hormones play a major role in the carefree, euphoric feelings you have when you’re having a good laugh. Studies show that the act of laughing can have a similar effect as that of an antidepressant.
Laughing is also good for your heart as it reduces artery inflammation, which in turn lowers your risk for heart disease. The effects of laughter can last up to 24 hours.
Using Cannabis Boosts Your Mood
The endocannabinoid system helps regulate a lot of day-to-day functions within the body including sleep, appetite, pain, immune system function and mood. When cannabinoids like tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or cannabidiol (CBD) bind to the receptors in the brain, they can have major therapeutic effects that include naturally stabilizing mood, reducing stress, managing anxiety, easing feelings of depression and generally helping you feel more cheerful and upbeat.
